Autumn and Winter.

Phew! So I didn't leave any more Christmas up dates, too busy painting, teaching and working at the lovely Heart Gallery. I am a bad blogger.
There is new work to be seen at the Harrison Lord Gallery, Brighouse and the Design Shop, Dean Clough. As well as cards and a little canvas at the aforementioned Heart Gallery.

So here is a little bit of my Autumn and Winter....

I watched the fireworks..

I listened to Clem Leek in a very cold building in Hebden...

And Billy the kitten grew...

....and grew.

Here's to a happy, peaceful and rewarding 2011 for everyone xxx

Christmas Exhibitions

I've been preparing for lots of Christmas exhibitions lately. Yesterday I was at the Art Market in Holmfirth. It was a really great event, with a very high standard of work. I took my camera along only to discover the battery had run out, doesn't that always happen at the wrong time? Anyway check the link  to see this successful event.
I also completed paintings for the Portland Gallery in Richmond, London. Two of them are on the Christmas show invite-I was really pleased!
More Christmas Exhibition news to follow soon....

Friday 22 October 2010

I've been so busy lately I've neglected my blog. Here is a little bit of what I have been up to. These images are from a monoprint teach I did using collage. Starting my teaching course has been brilliant but has led to a blog absence!
I collected lots of seed heads to use for collage printing and as you can see I had help from Billy the kitten in the selection process! However my best practice prints were from feathers.

Its been pretty rainy in the valley these past few days, so I thought I would post some sunny pictures. It may have worked for this bank holiday, as there are no clouds at the moment!

Edinburgh Days

I heard Belle and Sebastian's , "Stars of Track and Field" on the radio the other day, from the beautiful album: "If you're feeling sinister". It took me right back to my days at Edinburgh College of Art, there were so many scottish bands making music at that time.
I started to dig out all my old sketch books from then.I remember I bought a members ticket for the National Museum in Edinburgh, so I could go and draw all the animals there, anytime. They had rows and rows of butterflies, huge elephants, all sorts! I think my obsession with drawing and painting elephants started there! It made me think, I must get back into the habit of always having a sketch book with me, as its so nice to look back....like Dylan in the movies.

The Handmade Parade!

Yesterday it was the Handmade Parade in Hebden Bridge. I was working at the beautiful Heart Gallery but I did sneak a peak!

The theme was journeys and everyone excelled themselves with their costumes! There were journeys to the sea, and strange lands, but this little expedition to space was one of my favourites!

The Canterbury Tales

Last week I saw Northern Broadsides production of The Canterbury Tales. It was such an imaginative and funny production. I have seen Northern Broadsides plays before, and the actors bring such a great energy and enthusiam to their profession, it inevitably becomes infectious. The venue was the Viaduct Theatre at Dean Clough which was really suited to the play. The seating is on either side of the stage, so a lot of movement on stage is required, so none of the audience misses out on the action! Again Northern Broadsides triumph at this, and deserved their numerous rounds of applause at the end.

West Yorkshire Print Workshop

Yesterday I went to West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield. I'm definitely not the best printer in the world, but this is my third visit and I am improving! I printed some new cards, based on my hometown of Hebden Bridge. It is really nice to be returning to printing, as during my university studies I was a regular in the screen-print room. I made many screen-printed books, which I'm sure will make an appearance on here when I'm feeling nostalgic.

BUNTING AND SEAGULLS

This is one of the paintings I have been doing for The Janet Bell gallery in Anglesey. They are always such fun to do. More on their way!
